In response to increasing and persistent thefts in and around the Las Vegas area, targeting certain Hyundai vehicles, without push-button ignitions and immobilizing anti-theft devices, Hyundai has introduced a free anti-theft software upgrade for affected customers. Now available at ABC Hyundai - The Southern Nevada Recall Center.
The anti-theft software upgrade will be available for various models from now through the year's end. Nearly 4 million vehicles are now eligible to receive this free software upgrade.
Important Information:
If your vehicle is equipped with a push-button ignition and smart key, your vehicle is already equipped with an engine immobilizer, and the software upgrade is not needed.
Or
If your vehicle is equipped with an immobilizer lamp on the instrument Cluster when the ignition is turned on, your vehicle is already equipped with an engine immobilizer, and the software upgrade is not needed.
Or
If your vehicle was produced after November 2021, engine immobilizers come as standard equipment and your vehicle will not need this software upgrade.

The software upgrade modifies certain vehicle control modules on Hyundai vehicles equipped with standard “turn-key-to-start” ignition systems. As a result, locking the doors with the key fob will set the factory alarm and activate an “ignition kill” feature so the vehicle cannot be started when subjected to the popularized social media theft mode.
